本刊是国内外公开发行的综合性学术刊物，创办于1984年。原名《微量元素》，1992年更名为《微量元素与健康研究》。是国内创刊最早的唯一一份微量元素学科专业期刊。现被“中国核心期刊（遴选）数据库”、“CNKI中国期刊全文数据库”全文收录，《中国期刊网》、《万方数据-数字化期刊群》入网期刊，《中国学术期刊（光盘版）》入编期刊，《中文生物医学期刊文献数据库》（CMCC）、《中文科技期刊数据库》、《中文科技资料目录—医药卫生》全文收录，并被列为《中国学术期刊综合评价数据库》来源期刊，《CAJ-CD规范》执行优秀期刊。 从2003年起，本刊已由原来的季刊改为双月刊，逢双月28日出刊。发表周期可由原来的6～9个月缩短至平均3～6个月或更短。为了节省审稿时间，编辑部承诺：①凡经编委推荐的具有突破性创新成果的文章，编辑部不再另找审稿人审查，优先在最近一期发表。②国家自然科学基金资助项目，部、省、市级科研基金资助项目的文章，以及特别优秀的论文，本刊可优先发表。 本刊特别欢迎论点鲜明、有独到见解、理论与实践相结合的论著性文章。内容包括实验研究、临床医学、预防医学、中医中药、妇幼保健、食品营养与食物链、实验技术、综述与讲座、环保、商检以及中西医结合的新理论、新技术、新成果等稿件。也十分欢迎短篇论著性论文。
